James Dobson's War On America

"I apologize to lesbian and gay Americans who are demeaned on a regular basis by the false, irresponsible, and inflammatory rhetoric of James Dobson's anti-gay radio and print materials."

Gays and lesbians rarely hear apologies from the religious right. But they did November 16, 1997 when Gil Alexander-Moegerle, one of the founders of Focus on the Family, spoke at White Rock Community Church.

Mr. Alexander-Moegerle began issuing apologies at a press conference August 15, 1997 "for certain  actions and attitudes on the part of the Christian Right in general and James Dobson and Focus on the Family in particular." James Dobson is president of Focus on the Family, based in Colorado Springs, CO.

At the press conference, Mr. Alexander-Moegerle said that apologies were due to gay and lesbians; women in general; African-Americans; the Jewish; radio, television and print reporters; Christians; and more.

On the issue of homosexuality, Mr. Alexander-Moegerle said: "I apologize to lesbian and gay Americans who are demeaned on a regular basis by the false, irresponsible, and inflammatory rhetoric of James Dobson's anti-gay radio and print materials."

In his recent book, James Dobson's War on America, Mr. Alexander-Moegerle critiques Mr. Dobson's character, style and political agenda from an insider perspective.

White Rock Community Church, an evangelical church of more than 600 members, was founded in June 1991.
