A Testimony of Resolve |
"And now, I
am compelled by the Spirit, I am
going to Jerusalem, not knowing
what will happen to me there. I
only know that in every city the
Holy Spirit warns me that prison
and hardships are facing me.
HOWEVER, I consider my life
worth nothing to me if only I
may finish the race and complete
the task the Lord Jesus has
given me- the task testifying to
the gospel of God's grace."
Acts 20:22-24
Of all characters in the Bible, the
Apostle Paul is task oriented. He is
convinced of what he has been called
to do. He is clear about the task no
matter where he is led to go nor how
difficult the situation may be when
he gets there. I find it interesting
that the role of the Holy Spirit in
this passage is one of offering
direction and guidance, but never
giving a false sense that the task
will be easy or the road smooth and
unencumbered. The Holy Spirit is
honest about the challenges,
nevertheless, urges Paul on to
complete the task given to him no
matter where he is led to go. I
suppose Paul can be described as a
single-minded man who puts his head
down and plunges ahead regardless of
the warning of pain to come.
So how does he do this? Is he just a
stubborn type-A man who has a huge
ego and refuses to fail? Well, he
does seem to have some of those
characteristics when you study his
life and adventures, but I don't
believe this is what keeps him
going. I really think it is the
definite call God has placed upon
his life. But the call in and of
itself is still not enough to
empower him. I really believe it is
the deeply grounded faith that only
comes when one has an overwhelming
personal encounter with God's grace.
It is the experience of God's grace
on his life that gives him the
strength to run the race to complete
the task given to him.
Where is the Spirit compelling you
to go? What is the task that the
Lord Jesus has gifted you for and
called you to do? Where are you on
your race? What has been your
experience with God's grace, not
just in the past, but lately? All of
these are questions that should
cause even the nominal Christian to
pause and reflect and attempt to
answer. It is not just the Apostles
that the Lord Jesus has called and
the Spirit compelled. It is you if
you are a follower of the Lord Jesus
Christ.
Paul was clear, very clear, about
his task, his race, and his goal.
Are you? Maybe some heavy duty
listening is what you need to be
doing if you are unclear. May God
grant you the wisdom that comes from
his grace to do so. |

Treasurer's Note |
A gentleman wrote of growing up and
playing Monopoly with his
grandmother who was a merciless
competitor. The grandmother played
against her grandchildren and won
almost every time. One day the
young boy was able to win, and he
made the most of his victory. He
pulled all the play money, motels
and hotels to his side of the board
and gloated about his victory.
The grandmother then told him,
"Just remember, it all goes back
in the box. All the money, all
the hotels and motels and game
tokens: at the end of the game,
it all goes back in the box!"
We as Christians need to
remember, at the end all that we
have goes back in the box. We
all have to leave everything to
someone. Wouldn't it be wise to
share during our lifetime with
the One who gave everything we
have? Source "40 Day Spiritual
Journey to a more Generous Life"
In the month of July, we
received $27,069
in tithes and offerings and had
expenses of $31,993,
which leaves a deficit of $4,924.
Year-to-date, we have received $195,843
in tithes and offerings and have
had expenses of $263,270,
which leaves a deficit of $67,427.
Please be in prayer about the
finances of our church and what
God is leading you to do with
respect to your giving.

In
Service to Him and to You...
Diana Delashaw
chairs our Communications Committee;
previously served on Missions and
Women's Planning Committees, as well
as participated in Choir and Friends
Ministry. Last week she was asked
to prayerfully consider candidacy as
a deacon. She was developing the
September ads surrounding our Pride
Parade entry when she did this
interview.
1. How long have you been a
member of WRCC?
4 - 5 years.
2. What church did you
attend when you were growing up?
I grew up attending a
Baptist church in Armstrong
Oklahoma; the First Baptist Church
in Armstrong and the only church in
Armstrong. It was where I was
baptized. I was there every time
the doors were open. It was a lot
of fun. It was kind of like a big
family you know when your parents
can get on to you... that was the
only place I could think of that
everyone was my parents. My mom
told me that every church member had
the privilege of being my parent.
3. What brought you to WRCC?
I was told I needed to
get back in church and said White
Rock Community Church was right down
the street from where I lived. I
came in one Sunday and sat in a pew
by myself. I felt a tap on my
shoulder and it happened to be my ex
husband, Terry Covington. He asked
me if I would like to sit by him and
his partner Cody. Basically, pretty
much from that moment on I felt this
was a little home church.
4. What keeps you coming
back to WRCC?
God
5. Tell us something about
yourself that God has blessed you
with?
Life (as she laughs
with great joy). He has blessed me
here at White Rock and with a dog
named Max. |

Come, Join the Parade!
|

The 26th annual Alan Ross
Freedom Parade will be held
Sunday, September 20th
beginning at 2:00 pm. The theme
for this year's parade and
festival in Lee Park will be
"Your Rights, Our
Rights, Human Rights"
and the honorary Grand Marshall
will be activist Larry Kramer.
We will once again be entering a
float in the parade and will
have members of our congregation
walking alongside the float and
carrying banners. Please look
for the sign-up sheets in the
parlor for those willing to
walk, carry a banner, help staff
the booth for the festival in
Lee Park, or come assist with
float construction! On Sunday,
September 20th we will be having
an abbreviated morning worship
service and it's the one Sunday
a year where everyone is
encouraged to come to church in
their parade attire. This way
everyone can go directly to the
staging area and join the float
that will already be in
position. Our assigned number
for this year is 41 which will
put us in the very center of the
parade.Please be watching the
parlor for more information! We
will be placing updates and maps
to our location in the staging
area as we get closer to the
event. Please plan on join us
for this tremendous day of pride
as we carry the knowledge of our
church and the Good News of
Jesus into our community.
