Great Time Had by All on July
4th!
Some 94 people shared in a great
celebration on July 4th. We started
with the "White Rock Tag-Team Preaching Machine"
duo (Rev. Kaye and Pastor Douglas) in the shared
sermon centered around freedom and equality in
Christ.
We continued our fun in the Activity Center
with hot dogs, home-made apple pie (thank you,
George H.), and ice cream.
Additionally, we celebrated with Pastor
Douglas as he was presented with his diploma for
his recently completed Bachelor's degree from
Central Bible College. We had a
surprise cap and gown and a cake for him.

We are 15 weeks away
from the 29th annual DFW Black Tie
Dinner on November 6th at the Sheraton
Hotel in Downtown Dallas. White Rock Friends
has been selected again this year as one of the
beneficiaries of this event...and we need to fill
5 tables to meet one of our requirements as a
beneficiary. Tickets are $300.00 per person, and
if you start to put money aside this week, it is
only $20.00 each week per ticket. The savings
chart will show you how much money you'll need to
put aside with each week that you wait to begin
your savings plan. Sign-up up sheets are on
the bulletin board in the parlor. Please get
your name on the list and your money to Pastor
Douglas as soon as
possible!
Additionally, we need to sell tickets
to the raffle of the 2011 Mercedes-Benz C300
Sports Sedan. If you would like to purchase
a $100.00 ticket for the raffles please see Ken
Sullivan or Daniel Montelongo.
Mark your calendars for the first
week of November, there will be many volunteer
opportunities available all this week from Monday
the 1st through Sunday the
7th. All volunteer hours YOU can
provide means more MONEY coming back to benefit
White Rock Friends! More specifics about
what you can do will be coming...

Opportunities
for service and
hospitality! Do you feel you have the
gift of Hospitality? Do you like
welcoming people and making them feel at
home? Tom Scott has faithfully been
preparing coffee and setting out the pastries in
the parlor for years, and we owe him a great debt
of gratitude. We also owe him a break!
If you are an early riser, and might consider
coming in early on Sunday mornings (even one
Sunday a month would help)to get the coffee
brewing and get our church 'home' ready to welcome
people...please contact Pastor Douglas at
douglas@whiterockchurch.org
Be
an angel here on Earth!
Daniel
Montelongo is looking for volunteers who can pick
up the donated bread from the Whole Foods Martket
on Lomo Alto off of Lemmon Avenue on Saturday and
Sunday mornings. Pastor Douglas calls these
helpers "bread Angels" because you help benefit
literally hundreds of families by your delivery to
both the Whtie Rock Friends Clients and the chruch
members. If you need more details before you
commit to 'one Saturday a month, or one weekend a
month' please talke to Daniel or Pastor Douglas
for more details. A rotating schedule where
many share the burden works the best-please let us
know if we can add you to the pick-up
rotation. Contact Daniel at Dnls35@aol.com. |

White Rock Friends is grateful to the
Texas Gay Rodeo Association for their generous
support of the General Store through their gift of
$883.22 at the beginning of July. The check
was presented to Ken Sullivan and Daniel
Montelongo at the TGRA show at Illusions on July
4th.

Music Ministry News You can
Use!
If you think it's been hot in Texas,
Ask Will Varner our Minister of Music , about his
trip to Egypt, and touring in 113 degree
heat! Welcome back Will & Bobby, we hope
you had a great trip. The choir council and
congregation would also like to thank Joe
Kessler for directing the choir and sharing in
music ministry while Will was away.
Choir rehearsals are Wednesday
evenings at 7:30 pm and now is the PERFECT time to
join the ministry of the choir. Our choir is
made up of people of a variety of musical
abilities, so don't be intimidated and think that
your gifts aren't good enough for God to
use! The choir is gearing up with new music
for the fall, so now may be YOUR time to find a
place of ministry in the loft. If you have
questions, please contact Will at musicwilllive@aol.com or call 214-320-0043 ext 28 to get
your questions answered.
|
| The Education Committee is always on
the lookout for people to be teachers, Teaching
Assistants, and substitutes for ministry to the
younger members of our church. If you have a
heart for children, and feel that God may be
leading you to join this ministry, please see
Pastor Viv to let her know of your interest.
The new fall quarter begins in September, so new
teaching schedules will soon be written.
With all levels of involvement available, I'm sure
there is a place that will work for your schedule
too.

Committee
UPDATES!
Deacon
update-July 20, 2010 It is summertime and the heat
is here. We are getting ready to start
the selection process to find next years
Deacons. Please be in prayer for God to help
us find new shepherds for our
flock.
Prayer
Committee (July 20, 2010):
We continue to
take in weekly prayer requests/ praise reports
from email, Sunday service, & the foyer prayer
box....then have Prayer Bulletin updates
available each Sunday in the 2 designated
locations. We also continue to enlist
folks to lead Community Prayer each
Sunday during Worship, and try to follow up the
prayer/ praise reports with personal calls &
cards as we are
able.
Nominating
Committee-July 20, 2010
Nominating Committee has been busy
seeking committee members to be nominated on the
Ballot for the upcoming congregation meeting next
Sunday. We are also seeking a Church Clerk
and Treasurer. For all of these positions,
we have been brainstorming for names, checking
their qualifications and eligibility, and then
contacting the people to determine their interest
level in the committee or office. We are
also making plans for surveying the congregation
for September openings for the coming church
year.
